What Is a Stand Pipe?
A stand pipe supplies oil from the high-pressure oil pump to the oil rails for the injectors. Stand pipes are excellent preventative maintenance for preventing high-pressure oil problems. The 6.0 Stand Pipe is an updated version for Ford 6.0L engines. Old-style rail plugs are susceptible to o-ring failure. A loss of injection control pressure (ICP) causes stalling or no start. The injectors of a high-pressure oil system on a 6.0L Ford are hydroelectric unit injectors and use high-pressure oil to actuate them.
The oil comes from the pump mounted in the engine valley up to the high-pressure oil manifold for delivery through ball tubes and the injectors. It comes through the standpipes to get oil from the oil club to the manifold. Manifolds are wide pipes or channels into which smaller pipes or channels lead. A standpipe connects multiple manifolds.

How Does a Stand Pipe Relate to the 6.0L Powerstroke Engine?
The 6.0L Powerstroke engine uses compressed oil to actuate the injectors and deliver fuel to the combustion chamber. When a vehicle is off, a standpipe holds high-pressure oil in the rail and drains oil back to the oil pan. Quality steel makes the stand pipe reliable.
The oil is repeatedly compressed to levels exceeding 3000 psi to achieve the desired pressure. The Ford 6.0 stand pipe kit from Diesel Site restores proper operation in the Powerstroke engine. Many issues with the Powerstroke stem from the oil system.
Items like high-pressure standpipes supply oil to the engine rail. Over time, factory stand pipe seals deteriorate and cause poor running conditions, high-pressure oil leaks, and hard starts. Diesel Site redesigned the stand pipe to have a backup o-ring for each o-ring on the interior shaft. The kit also has new banjo bolts without the spring and a check ball to permit 100 percent fluid flow to the cooler.
Compared to old OE sets, the quality of the new sets outranks the noticeable flaws of the others. Comparing ‘enhanced’ aftermarket sets, the design is quite similar, but they have wrong o-rings with no backups, the filament and o-ring grooves are of poor quality, and they have bad oil port matching.
Stand pipes and rail plugs need Teflon washers that control the oil inside the o-ring pockets. As the high-pressure oil pressurizes and depressurizes, it causes the o-ring to move up and down. Eventually, it will start tearing because of the movement. It allows pockets of pressure internally. The Teflon o-ring is important.
